We’re back with our school’s Student Spotlight series! This month, the featured student is Edrick Sanchez of Surrey, BC!
Edrick is 15 years old and has been studying piano for one year now. His teacher Natasha describes Edrick as kind, ambitious, smart and passionate. He is also her first student who she started teaching at Resound School of Music. Edrick is always choosing to play pieces that he loves that are much harder than in the curriculum book, and he puts in the work to be able to play them beautifully.
“My favourite thing about teaching Edrick is seeing him smile and feel proud of himself after playing through one of the challenging pieces he has been working on.”
– Natasha
Edrick and his teacher have been working on a song called Shing Kai by Eve, which he recently performed at the last Resound School Recital! They have also been working on learning Hanon exercises which are great for developing technique and are great brain teasers as well.
Below is a short interview we conducted with Edrick:
- What made you want to start taking piano lessons?
I saw online piano covers of songs I’m listening to, and I was inspired by it I took piano lessons so I could learn to play those songs. - How long have you been taking music lessons with Resound School of Music?
About a year now. - Who are some of your biggest musical influences? Do you have any favourite artists or musicians?
For a particular person I don’t know if I have one… - What’s one musical goal that you would like to accomplish?
To play a fast and hard piece. - What is your favourite thing about your music lessons?
My teacher Natasha. - What do you like most about your teacher?
She listens and is open to me.
Edrick is just one of the many hard-working and dedicated students who started online music lessons during the Covid-19 pandemic. His story illustrates how even during a global pandemic, he was able to learn a valuable new skill and discover a passion for playing music. We are so incredibly proud of his progress and look forward to more performances to come!
